Mindfulness is something I have heard of but never utilized within my classroom. I feel this research has brought to light new information on how to instill a sense of calm and purpose within my students. While researching Mindfulness, I did wish there were more studies on how it affects school dynamics. There was evidence to show that test scores improved in schools that used this concept, but I do wish more specific details were available in regards to how the districts use Mindfulness. I did enjoy reading about counselors and teachers using this information to help students with anxiety issues and obsessive compulsive disorder.
Throughout my Mindfulness research I did find it interesting how all of the aspects of Mindfulness can help not only students but how it has helped others, using the research of John Kabat-Zinn. During my presentation I felt I was able to grasp this concept fairly well. I do wish I would have added another video to help better present the definition Mindfulness and its uses. I did feel comfortable presenting the material and hope that I was able to convey the message clearly to others. Although this concept can be hard to follow because of all of the multitasking we often do, taking time for yourself with reflection and learning to focus in on what we are doing, while we are doing it, will make us better teachers. It will also allow us to have a better understanding of what our students needs are, if we are watching and listening closely.
I felt I was able to learn quite a bit about this concept and look forward to using parts of this concept within my own classroom and life.
